Writer's Block: Forget me not
[Error: unknown template qotd]I've always remembered this as happening when I was one-and-a-half, but how can I be so sure? Can a one-and-a-half-year-old actually be aware that they are one-and-a-half? Anyhoo...
Our kitchen table had a sheet of cardboard covering up its underside, I guess to protect the springs and mechanisms of its extendable leaves and whatnot. And this cardboard was perforated with several large circular holes. Also, the table had tubular metal legs that curved inward before splaying out to the floor, and they were braced with tubular metal hoops.
My earliest memory is me sitting on the floor under that table, surrounded and “protected” by the metal hoops that joined the legs, looking up at that cardboard surface, reaching up and poking my fingers into the holes. And feeling intensely curious.
Not really sure why this stands out, other than to suggest that I started out intensely curious and have remained so ever since... and I've always been prone to hide myself away and keep to myself...
