[trivia i ran across today]:
Cassius Marcellus [“Cash”] Coolidge, the American artist who painted A Friend in Need (better known as Dogs Playing Poker), was also the composer of a comic opera -- about a mosquito infestation in New Jersey. Additionally, he invented something that carnival-goers have almost certainly seen: those “cut-outs” (plywood props with painted figures on them, into which one inserts his/her head and has a picture taken).
