let us now praise my "new" car

Well, it took about 9½ months for this car to burn out a headlight bulb. (Got it taken care of yesterday -- if nothing else, at least that's one of the cheapest things you can take it into the shop for.) My previous car was notorious for going thru 2 or 3 headlight bulbs per year -- I'm sure it must've had undiagnosed electrical faults. (The on-and-off performance of its stereo is probably another clue...)

dude!! what in the hell are you doing with your headlights?? maybe I don't want to know. in more than 40 years of driving, i have never ever burned out a headlight. so thanks for taking up my slack there.

I have them on whenever I drive, day or night -- could that be it?

yeah, probably. I have mine on at night only... and only if I remember.... and I rarely drive at night.

In driving school we were taught that it was a good idea, and my experience bears that out. Even in clear daylight conditions, there have been times where being able to see someone else's lights made a crucial difference in how quickly I was able to get a fix on them. Anything I can do to make myself more clearly visible to other drivers (without blinding them, of course)...

My old van burnt headlights every 6 months or so. My car, not nearly so often. I don't know what the difference is other than the van was driven a lot more.

I always have my headlights on, day or night. The old van didn't have running lights, just headlights, so they were always on. My car has running lights but 99% of the time I turn the headlights on anyway as they are brighter.

My new van automatically switches depending on how dark it is, so I expect the headlights will last longer. I hope.
