it's not like I WANNA leave...
...but the LJ experience is starting to unravel for me.
It started with pop-up ads that covered over the login fields so I couldn't login, and which resisted my efforts to remove them. Then it became pop-up ads that cover the entire frickin screen and if you wait long enough maybe it will display an X you can click to make it go away. Today I notice that Writer's Block, a little feature on the home page that I always look forward to seeing even though I don't always join in.... well, today's Writer's Block is sponsored! And -- will wonders never cease -- today's topic just happens to be related to that sponsor's products! (Shock, surprise!)
I have written to LJ and complained every step of the way along this ad-deluge, but apparently my efforts are in vain, as things are getting worse rather than better. They seem determined to make it like wading thru a sewer in order to get to your front door.
Am I the only one who feels this way? Am I maybe overreacting?

WOT DA HECK??!!
Could they do something like install a filter on my account so I can't see these things anymore and will stop bitching at them? I can't imagine they actually really removed all the ads from their site just because of me...

Since I don't see the ads, I don't know what's normal, but a pop-up that stops you from even logging in, or that covers the whole screen, sounds odd to me. Is it possible you've picked up a virus from somewhere that's hijacking your browser?

I use Firefox at home and IE at the office and it works the same in both places. My virus scans at home have been clean for ages.
NOTE: my friends were reporting the pop-ups long before I could see them, but eventually they started showing up for me too -- maybe your turn is still to come! :D

Yours is Paid and mine is Basic, so I would expect to get hit with ads more often than you.
Re changing policies: They're like most businesses in that they will worsen the user experience if that will leads to a better outcome for them. It's a matter of finding a balance between what will generate more ad cash, and what will cause users to jump ship.
Fewers users with Paid accounts, who sit through fewer ads, might be better than more users with Basic accounts who sit through more ads.
