Extolling bananas

Actually, bananas are practically a wonder food.

They are very low in Saturated Fat, Cholesterol and Sodium. They are a good source of Dietary Fiber, Vitamin C, Potassium and Manganese, and a very good source of Vitamin B6 and folate.

With 422 milligrams of potassium per banana, bananas have more potassium than most fruit and may help lower blood pressure levels. (Doctors often prescribe a banana a day to patients on blood pressure medication to replace lost Potassium.)

And don't forget the medicinal benefits of bananas if you have the dire rear. It's the first food in the BRAT diet. (Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, Toast.)

BTW, I once wrote an article on bananas for Food-in-Guelph.com.
