something I am grateful for today

Inadvertent wisdom.

In recent years, it has become a habit of mine to say “yay” when I see something I enjoy, even if I see it frequently. For example, the city’s new garbage trucks with robot arms that lift the trash bins... I saw one while we were driving the other day and said “Yay, robot truck!”

And Sharon said, “You always make such a deal out of those trucks... or robins...” [she’s even more mystified by my enthusiasm for robins since they are so commonplace in our neighbourhood... but they’re cute!]

After a second I said, “Being blasé has never served me in any way.”

And it was only later that I thought some more and realized that this could in fact be true for anybody. How does it help anyone to be blasé about something? What can we possibly gain from it? Me, I choose to put it aside by saying “yay” to the little things in life.

Being blasé has never served you in any way.
