Boat at Lake Trasimeno

My second gouache is a study of an acrylic by Patti Mollica, Boat at Lake Trasimeno. When I first saw it, I was immediately drawn to how they abstracted the water into these big, bold, sweeping brushstrokes, and I was moved to try that out for myself.

The photo perhaps doesn't show it well, but the lit side of the boat is in fact not straight white out of the tube — it has the gentlest breath of turquoise in it, to cool it down and warm it up at the same time. (That's how the reference appeared to me, so I went for it.) I worked so hard to get that in there without making the boat actually look pale green! So if I'm gonna work that hard, I'm gonna draw your attention to it!
