sorry if you already knew this one but it's new to me....

an unusually trenchant Andy Rooney quote which i felt compelled to share:

"Democrats believe people are basically good but must be saved from themselves by their government.

"Republicans believe people are basically bad but they'll be okay if they're left alone."

reality tv

having recently read (and made) a few snarky comments re the latest tidal pool of "reality tv", i stopped and thought that:

although i watch precious little tv anymore, some of my dearest-loved shows are in fact reality tv... but of a different stamp than what is usually discussed under that rubric

so let me share a couple of my fave reality shows with you [btw, you non-canucks might be out of luck with these, im not sure]

Love 911 - Dr. Irv rocks!!

Taking It Off - just like last time, i came to love this year's little gang of struggling souls...

that is "reality tv", folx

random thotlets...

- i gotta stop judging the "success" of my journal entries by the presence or absence of comments. whats with me?

- in starbucks this morning i saw the cutest most gorgeous little baby --- sitting in her porta-seat with her blanket snugged up under her chin and this little woolly hat on. god, i got all wubbly, i could feel my heart melting, my chest caving in and my shoulders and spine collapsing in on top of it... i love babies so much [i dunno if i have the energy to ever actually raise another one, but seeing them and holding them is still like the best thing on earth --- or tied for best...]

- sometimes i think self-help guru dr. phil mcgraw looks just like hank kingsley from the larry sanders show. now there is a spooky concept, getting life advice from hank...

- speaking of hank [jeffrey tambor], i still think he wouldve made the perfect voice for the boss in the dilbert animated series. likewise jason alexander for wally. i originally had matt frewer pegged for dilbert, but daniel stern has grown on me to the point where hes just as good

- its beginning to seem to me that self-help books/programs/etc are like religions: you can find one that will tell you anything you wanna hear if you look long enough... [and if you think that means ive been reading a hella lotta them lately, then bingo]

- thirty years later and deep purple's machine head is even greater than i remembered [yes, even "smoke on the water"...]

- twenty years later and pat metheny's travels is even greater than i remembered

- ten years later and nirvana's nevermind is even greater than i remembered [yes, even "smells like teen spirit"...]

- okay i'll stop doing that...
