god bless ikea and all who sail in her...
Mar. 19th, 2003 11:43 am1) these things went together exactly like they were supposed to -- all the pieces were present and accounted for, they all fit like the instructions said they would... the damb things work just like they say they will. how often can you say that about anything?
2) when we got these shelves i told myself "remember to shim under the shelf unit a bit to give it a little backslant"... cuz ideally a bookshelf or similar shelf should slant down a bit from front to back, to encourage items to slide back into the snuggly embrace of the shelf rather than forward, off the edge and onto the floor...
well, as i built the units i saw that the shelf boards rest on top of little steel pegs... but the boards have little notches carved into their underside at the back, so that they notch over the pegs... meaning that the back of the shelf sits slightly lower than the front
automatic backslant built in to the system. how cool is that?!
these guys have defeated murphy. i hope that ikea is helping to design the Space Station. i mean, i would gladly live on Ikea Planet if the chance was there... what must life be like in a place where things actually work??
[ps: i think my new specs make me look a little bit like Griss on CSI sometimes...]
