something I am grateful for today
Apr. 5th, 2010 11:57 amSo yeah, I was away/sidelined/offline for a few days there.... didja miss me? ;)
Over the weekend I built a couple of boxes. If you can call rectangles with no top or bottom “boxes” -- they're more like four-sided enclosures. What they are actually is frames that will be placed in our yard, filled with soil, and turned into raised gardening beds.
In the past I have built crude bookshelves out of boards and nails, but this job necessitated the use of a drill and screwdriver. Normally if you put either of those tools in my hand it is a recipe for mistakes, marred wood, and swearing. I am not the handiest of folk. Most often if I'm involved in any sort of construction project, my brother-in-law is in charge and I provide token assistance.
But this time, albeit on a project of extreme simplicity and modesty, I did it all by myself and I did fine. No mistakes, no damage, no swearing. So what I'm grateful for today is that I managed to take a baby step forward as a carpenter. It's rather gratifying to see that I can do something like this and not mess it up.
