something I am grateful for today
Oct. 13th, 2010 10:32 amOur municipal water supply.
Tonight the city will be cleaning the watermains in our street, so from 8pm until 6am tomorrow mornin, we are supposed to avoid using any running water. We need to draw up and store a supply of water beforehand for drinking, for cooking, washing, flushing... we aren't supposed to do laundry or run the dishwasher, we can't shower, we need to bypass the water softener, etc. Then tomorrow we need to flush out all our taps to ensure the water's clean before we start accessing the city's supply again.
All the fuss and preparations make me keenly aware of how routinely and frequently and take-it-for-granted-ly we use water, which is always there, always clean, etc. Definitely gives one pause.
