something I am grateful for today
Aug. 20th, 2011 02:38 amA recent revelation:
A friend recently posted somewhere about how, while she herself hates Garfield, it sure makes her kids laugh.
I had an instant epiphany.
It's okay for other people to have sutff that they like, even if I don't like it.
Especially it's okay for kids to have sutff that's appealing to kids, even if it doesn't appeal to adults. There's so little in the world of comics in particular, that's suitable for kids. But even as a more general principle, if there's say a TV show that I hate, I really have no right to wish it were destroyed or whatnot if there are other people out there (no doubt vastly dissimilar to me) who like it. People are allowed to like what they like.
Yet all the time I hear “This show/movie/comic sucks so bad, I hate it, why does it exist, it should die, etc.” And I'm just as bad as anyone in that regard. But for the most part, what we're really saying there is “I don't enjoy this, this isn't for me”.
Not everything has to be for me.
