something I am grateful for today
Aug. 27th, 2011 08:53 pmTruly fresh vegetables.
Last year we started a vegetable garden in our backyard, expanding it somewhat this year. It truly has a kind of magic to it.
We just now had some of our own green beans. I'm not normally a fan of green beans, but I have to admit that these were truly good: the best I've ever eaten, in fact. I suspect that, in our culture, it's easy to lose sight of how much gets lost “in translation” from one locale to another, when our food needs to be transported to us from considerable distances. To have it growing right there next to you, taking it when it's ready, and eating it right away: magic, as I said.
