something I am grateful for today

Last night after supper, it happened at one point that the only ones left at the table were me, Hunter, Paisley, and one of her best friends [hi, Sharmie!] And we got talking about comics, and I got gabbing about making comics and how I go about it, etc.
One reason it was great is that all three of them are also cartoonists. They don't all draw comics with equal regularity, some of them are “more comic artists” than others, but they can all do this. So they all knew exactly what I was getting at, with everything I said. I was at a table full of cartoonists! I don't believe this has ever happened to me before.
Another reason it was great is that we chimed in with varying opinions and discussed how we differ -- e.g., I like to write a script, draw rough layouts of all my pages, and then start drawing the final art, whereas Hunter likes to design his main characters, get a rough plotline in his head, and then dive in to the actual drawing. So we ended up talking about the pros and cons of our methods, what we get out of them, etc. And we were disagreeing but we weren't arguing. Everyone there realized that there is no One Right Way® to do this, there's just the way that suits you best. And I realized how rare it is to be in a group of people who can disagree and discuss without arguing.
Very refreshing for me, all in all!
