I'm a meme sheep! :)

Look at your LJ "interests" list. If you have fewer than 50 interests, pick every fifth one. If you have between fifty and seventy-five interests, pick every seventh one. If you have over seventy-five interests, pick every tenth one. If you have fewer than ten, pick all of 'em. List them on your LJ, and tell everyone exactly what it is about these things that interests you so much.

books: aah geez. Explain why I like books?? Either you like 'em too, in which case no explanation is necessary, or you don't, in which case no explanation will suffice. I've been reading since I was three, pretty much without let-up. Sometimes a screen or a comic, but most often a book. A good rule of thumb: if I don't have a book in my hand and some music on, then something's wrong. Books give you access to all space, all time, all thought.

comics: *sigh* Another "can't really explain" one... I've been reading comics since I could read, and drawing them since I was eight. I vowed I would learn how to draw comics no matter how long it took, and it's one of very few vows I've actually kept. Something about how they engage both hemispheres of the brain, not just simultaneously but catalytically... grabs me in my core. To some folx, comics are a poor man's stepping-stone on the way to animation. To me, there's no question which artform I love more.

human energy field: I've had so many interesting experiences in recent years with the phenomenon of the human aura, both sensing my own and observing others', that I can't help but be intrigued. I'm not saying I necessarily buy anyone's explanation of it, but there is definitely something there...

kids: one of the few primeval irrational impulses that I don't struggle against is my love of children. Kids are generally fun and charming, and a lot deeper than many adults give them credit for. And babies -- my god, if you wanna make me just melt all to bits, show me [or hand me] a baby! And then there's the subject of my own kids -- don't get me started on that, we'd be here all day!! :)

science: *pulls hair out* Damb it, why am I getting all the huge, vaguely defined ones?!!...  My earliest memories are of exploring the world and trying to find out how it works and what makes it tick. The fact that so much of the universe is knowable, and that the knowledge feedbacks into itself and reveals more knowledge... it fascinates and excites me at a primal level. This is probably another one of those "either you already get it or you never will" things...

The Tao of Physics: Fritjof Capra's book is one of several that had a profound effect on helping me reconcile two major [and seemingly contradictory] aspects of myself: my affinities for spirituality and science. After vacillating from one to the other over the decades, this pointed a way to wholeness and synthesis that has given me new peace of mind. The ideas in it continue to engage me and affect the way I view my life.
