In Scandinavia I would expect it -- here, it took me by surprise. May have something to do with the overlapping heritage. The Vikings and Danes spent hundreds of years enjoying themselves in what was then Northumbria (where you are right now), beginning with their invasion of Linsdisfarne at the end of the eighth century.
