The hotel wifi was a bit better behaved this morning! And an even more welcome surprise: Local Hero was on TV -- one of our very fave films! And most apropos, as its Scottish setting closely resembles the north of England where we find ourselves now:

While shopping afterward, I found a significant bargain on bamboo socks, which the ladies insisted were life-changing and necessary for me to acquire, and who am I to argue?
We spent the afternoon at the Christmas fair at The Piece Hall:

a most imposing historic edifice:

offering shops, music, crowds, columns, antique doors both stark:

and decorative:

In the evening, Margery and her family took us to dinner at the locally renowned Indian restaurant Syhiba, where we had excellent butter chicken:

and naan bread so immense that they need to hang it on hooks on metal trees:

Another full day, leaving us sated and pleasantly fatigued.
