I've never *gotten* poetry either, in spite of getting one published (by one of those ridiculous publishing houses that pester you for years afterwards so not exactly a brilliant achievement). I knew when I was writing it that it was horribly pretentious and assumed that all poetry comes from the same place.

Now, an intelligent limerick or subversive haiku, that I can appreciate.
