I always take being called "weird" (though I haven't been outright called that as an insult in probably close to 20 years, thank God for being an adult and not in grade school) as a compliment, whether it's intended that way or not, because I know I'm being authentically myself then, not just conformist for the sake of fitting in. Because you're absolutely right, it really has nothing to do with morality or anything inherently good or bad.
Like I really don't care if anyone else my age listens to music from 20+ years before we were born, or whether or not they like sci-fi or are in band/choir or does anything else "weird" or "geeky" or out of the norm (and never did). I enjoy myself and that's all I care about, and I have people I can share my interests with.
