something I am grateful for today

Happy 2010 to all! [Back in '67 I remember seeing this obscure animated cartoon on TV that was set in 2010, and that date seemed like the unimaginably far future, like I couldn't conceive of myself living in it. And now look.]

Despite the purely arbitrary nature of this day, I am taking this opportunity to look back on 2009... and I see that I experienced more peace and contentment during last year than in any other year of my life that I can recall. In some strange way, this makes me feel like I had my most successful year ever. Yet I realize that nothing happened to me last year that would be called “success” according to society's usual standards. Be that as it may, I'll take it.

And at the moment, 2010 gives every indication of being more of the same, and I'll take that, too.

Peace and long life

Being a long time Trekophile, my standard response to your journal is "Live Long and Prosper" but I saw Avatar New Year's Eve. The plot is almost as predictable as the CGI is magnificent, but it does echo a phrase that I've always like.
