...is LJ's front page now trying so hard to look like Twitter? It reeks of cheap desperation and pointlessness.

Well, that's a fairly arty way of looking at it -- in terms of innovation vs. knockoffs. From a business standpoint, though, the idea is to serve your customers by giving them something close to what they want.

So, for instance, you use Windows, even though it is the end product of many years in which Microsoft looked at Apple's operating systems and said "Apple good. Must imitate Apple." Windows serves your needs; that outweighs the knockoff factor.

I would figure that the people who want Twitter will use Twitter. Those of us who appreciate LJ for how it differs from Twitter, would prefer it maintains its uniqueness.

(Idealism or naivete? You be the judge!)

Well, it's what you want; it's not for me to judge. But if most LJers are like you, then the change is a bad one from either an artistic or a business standpoint.

Personally, I'm like the other guy -- never even look at www.livejournal.com, so didn't notice. (Of course, I also never use Twitter.)

To me, the main change in recent months is definitely for the worse -- sometimes being forced to sit through a commercial before commenting. Fortunately, my browser doesn't autoplay such material.

Apparently I wasn't alone -- the front page has been changed back by popular demand!
