something I am grateful for today

The friendship of traypup. Especially thinking of her today because it's her birthday [have an amazing one, Tray!].

Most people, to see us, would not consider us close friends: we're not in constant touch with each other, we don't get together for coffee, etc. [And much of that is simply on account of how I choose to live my life, it's just my way with people generally...] But when I look back on the kindness and caring and support and interest she has shown me over the years [and my gosh yes it's been years!] I have to consider her a true friend.

“Take our place” as in “dominate the planet”? Yes. “Take our place” as in “dominate the planet with intelligence”? Probably not. Seems to me that nature doesn't try the same trick more than once: otherwise, we'd be as big as the dinosaurs. Their thing was immensity: once it failed, it wasn't tried again. So I figure the same would go for intellect.

Meaning that the next dominant lifeform would probably not be able to “learn from our successes and failures”...
