something I am grateful for today
Mar. 3rd, 2010 12:37 pmJust got a concert DVD by Chris Botti and, while watching it, I realized anew how blessed I am to be able to hear this guy. Even more amazing than simply listening to his sutff, is watching this and seeing for myself that That Sound can actually be produced by a human being.
To me, Botti is for trumpet what Scott Hamilton is for tenor sax -- namely, that if you can't already play this instrument phenomenally and you want to fantasize that you can, then this guy is what you dream you sound like. What a gorgeous, words-fail-me tone.
Granted, Botti is less of a purist than The Mighty Scott® -- while he is clearly a jazz musician he is one who sometimes chooses to play music that is pop rather than jazz, whereas Scott is straightahead mainstream all the way -- but even so, That Sound makes your mouth open and time stop.
