I have struck someone in anger, and decades later I continue to regret it horribly.

I have also been struck in anger, and decades later I have never seen any indication that the person who struck me ever regretted it for a second.

Funny how that works. (I expect that the simplest and truest explanation is that I deserved the hit but the person whom I hit did not.)
