something I am grateful for today
Dec. 6th, 2011 01:25 pmGetting a little of my Christmas spirit back.
Just last night I was thinking about how I am dreading the onrush of Christmas. I have next to zero shopping done, no idea what to get anyone, all the house decorating feels like work that I don't wanna do: pretty much like every December.
But last night, a special snow fell: when it hit the sidewalks and streets, it melted -- but when it hit the grass and trees, it stuck there and outlined everything. Very pretty and easy to drive in. So being greeted by that sight this mornin didn't hurt.
Then later, while I popped into the grocery store for a coupla things, I saw this little old lady and little young lady meet at the checkout line. I gather they know each other but haven't seen each other for a while. Well they hugged and beamed at each other and gabbled energetically and took such delight in each other... and it did my heart good to see people liking each other so much, even though I don't know either of them. It reminded me that seeing people whom you like, is a good thing. And that's part of Christmas, too.
So I am somewhat mollified toward the holiday season today.
(But, overall, I'd still just as soon skip it.)
