something I am grateful for today
Apr. 11th, 2012 01:20 pmOur municipal water supply.
Tonight is our annual water-main cleaning. As of 8pm we are supposed to use no water in the house until 6am tomorrow, so as not to draw any gunk into our home's plumbing while the procedure churns up the pipes outside.
Every time this happens, my first impulse is to complain. Then I remember that, as long as we take the precautions that the city thoughtfully posts on our door beforehand, we always get through it with minimal hardship so it really isn't all that big a deal. Then I also remember that at least they do clean the system regularly, so that the water quality here is always extremely high and our service is well-maintained. Not everybody in the world has access to really good water at their fingertips 364 nights a year.
