This is the sort of odd coincidence that makes people believe in divine intervention or mysticism or whatnot:

While our old house was on the market, we had a slow but steady trickle of people making appointments to come look at it. In mid-August there was a two-week dead period, but other than that, never a week went by that we didn't hear from at least one prospective buyer. As the fall wended into October, things started getting busier -- we were doing three showings a week fairly consistently.

Then came a Sunday where someone came back for a second viewing -- and they were but one of three appointments all booked for that same day. The joint, as they say, was jumpin'.

The following day, those second-viewers put in an actual offer. The first one we had received.

As soon as that happened, all other inquiries about the house stopped dead.

It was a couple of weeks before the offer became firm and the house was flagged and marked as Sold, so to all intents and purposes nothing had changed about the house to the outside observer. But all during those couple weeks, not one single call about the house.

It's as if, as soon as that offer was made, everyone else knew that this was the offer that would become final, the house was as good as sold, and there was no need to ask to see it. But of course there's no way anyone else could know this.

But there it is: we were getting more and more viewers all the time, but then as soon as the offer is made, boom -- dead. The timing is kinda weird.

In the olden days, when an offer was made on a house, all of the realtors were informed. I remember expressing an interest in a condo more than once and having the response be 'not worth the time, they have an offer'.

Of course that was 1. a hundred years ago and 2. in another country so my mileage is probably closer to gallops per bushel.

We were selling without an agent (through PropertyGuys (http://www.propertyguys.com)), and they were buying without an agent, so the only people who knew there was an offer was us, the people making the offer, and our lawyers.

Clever druids... and yet, no one's moved into Stonehenge yet after all this time, they're having a heckuva job unloading that property!
