something I am grateful for today

johncomicToday we had a meeting where we were presented with the details of our new employment agreement and got to vote on whether we accept it or not.
After all the talk of steep cuts to our benefits, etc., that had been circulating the last few weeks, we ended up making some gains in how things are organized so that labour has a stronger say in several areas, all our benefits remain untouched... the biggest negative change is that the cost of our pension contribution is rising by less than 1% -- plus we're getting a raise that will more than cover that increase. Apparently all the other unions on campus came away with pension cost increases that were larger than ours. It's hard to see how we could've done any better than we did.
I feel reasonably confident that the membership will accept this agreement. Turning it down would mean going on strike, with pretty much zero possibility of renegotiating anything better than this.
