something I am grateful for today
Jun. 17th, 2012 07:58 amI have opted today not to be different purely for the sake of it -- instead, I shall go with the flow and post a Father's Day-related gratitude:
My dad has been gone for five years now. I do sorta wish he had been able to see our new house [I bet he woulda been impressed] or our new car [I suspect he might've had some difficulty with it, given that it isn't a Chrysler! But it was the first time I ever even attempted to buy a car without his input].
However, I'm glad that he was at least here long enough to get to know our kids. He liked them and they liked him. I think that was the most important thing I ever had to “show” him...

Date: 2012-06-17 03:07 pm (UTC)Absolute agreement here! I'm only sorry that Kate and Sam didn't get to know their grandmother as well my nieces did. However, this is father's day so...
HAPPY FATHER'S DAY JOHN! (And the same to any other father's reading this.)
PS: My current car is the first I bought without my Dad too. At age 50, it felt frighteningly independent.
