Today's walkabout was a bit long, to make up for yesterday. I set off early in the morning and went down Piccadilly, the only remaining street radiating from our flat that I hadn't yet gone down. It took me to another section of the city walls where I found Fishergate Postern Tower:

From there I strolled along the walls, watching the rising sun catch them (FYI, that happens at around 8:30am up here!):

Also went past the Barbican Centre, a concert hall where fave York band Shed Seven has performed:

I went past Fishergate Bar:

which has a swell little passageway through it:

And finally I was back at Walmgate Bar, at the other side from where I was on Saturday -- so today I had a good look at its barbican:

including from the inside!

When I showed the doorway to Gatehouse Coffee on Saturday, I was asked why I didn't go in -- so today I did!

This cute tiny place seats nine (I later learned there is upstairs seating as well) and the coffee was very good.

Not sure if they sell these or expect to have a lot of people wanting to borrow one to read over their coffee:

Their washroom sports walls of ancient stone and an open window in December!

I saw many new-to-me churches today, including St. George's:

and St. Saviour's:

and also a lot of pubs today, including The Masons Arms:

The Phoenix [which features live jazz]:

The Waggon & Horses two doors down from that:

The Spread Eagle which also advertised live music:

which has a spiffy house across from it:

and The Snickleway Inn:

and here's why I had to grab a shot of that one:

I also went up Aldwark to see the Merchant Taylors' Hall:

and over to Coney Street, because I heard it had a landmark clock, so I went looking for that:

And while I was down that way, I had a breathtaking moment: I remembered last year how amazingly talented the buskers are here, especially compared to home, and today I heard an incredibly fine one. This young lady was singing Ave Maria:

and she had the pure kind of voice you are supposed to have when you sing that. I stayed there for a couple of her songs, transfixed, before going on, in a quiet mood and with my heart filled.
