moment of enlightenment

Last night we were re-watching I, Curmudgeon [we always watch Alan Zweig films whenever we can]. Shortly after it began, Hunter came by and we told him to come watch it. He asked “What's it about?” and I said “People being bitter and cranky.” Whereupon he exclaimed “Cool!” and literally hopped onto the couch, and watched all the way thru with us.

Toward the end he said “You have no idea how much I identify with this.” However, I thought to myself Sure I have. Cuz Hunter is well known to us as a social critic, independent thinker, iconoclast, deplorer of mediocrity and stupidity, and all-round gadfly. That's why we figured he'd like watching this film!

After it was done, I told him that I wanted to say my piece, in quasi-rebuttal to a hundred minutes of negativity, just to get my view out there... and I said:

• there is a lot of crap in the world, just like everyone in the film said


• there is also a lot of amazing, fantastic sutff out there too, as well as the whole spectrum in between, and it's all there all the time


• what part of the spectrum you focus on, colours your experience of life and the world


• you make the choice what sutff you focus on

And as soon as those words were outa my mouth, a voice inside me said, Who are you??!!

But there it was.

And then we went out to look for meteors for a while...
