something I am grateful for today

johncomicA few years back, I stumbled upon a modest but useful prayer [stumbled upon inside my own brain, not “stumbled upon” as in “yoinked from somebody else elsewhere”]. And since we started prepping the old house to sell (first open house this afternoon, yikes!) I've been praying this a lot. Here 'tis:
“God, please show me what to do and help me do it right.”
I like this cuz I think it's fair. I'm not asking for miracles, or for my life to be made easier than everyone else's... it's more like, when I'm faced with a situation ranging from “challenging” to “overwhelming”, it's not always easy for me to put my thoughts in order and figure out the best thing to do (or the first thing, where to begin... or what to do next). And sometimes once I know what to do, I lack confidence in my ability to do it well. So I think asking for a little help with these things, so I can handle my life more effectively, is not asking too much.
I also like this cuz, so far, it always works. (Not all prayers can claim such a track record.) You can argue for “the power of prayer” or that “it just puts me in a better mindset to deal with sutff” or whatever. But any time I have been faced with a situation and prayed like this, things have worked out. Maybe not worked out perfectly or ideally, but OK enough. I'm content with a life that works out OK enough.
[I wonder if I could sell posters of this prayer. Probably wouldn't sell as much as “The Serenity Prayer” or “Desiderata”, but it might sell OK enough.] :P
