johncomicsomethin thats been naggin at the back of my mind for ages, finally popped out where i can see it clearly and share it with one and all:
y'know what has always bugged me about the whole culture of hip-hop [or "whatever the hell theyre callin it now i can never keep track"]?
they never smile.
they never look like theyre havin a good time or gettin any joy outa life. i look at the guys on the covers of like vibe and source and XXL and whatnot that i see on the magazine racks... and theyre all scowlin or sneerin or poutin or glowerin or lookin like they cant be bothered to wake up... and when i happen to catch bits of videos its more of the same from all of them...
i mean good lord, even the punks with all their "destroy" and "no future" and all that, at least they still managed to have a laugh on a pretty regular basis. at least they werent afraid to be happy. even the death metal bands, as intensely cathartic as they are, they still manage to also feel some of that catharsis themselves, y'know??
but all these descendents of rap, they are so frickin one-note relentless, they never lighten up! i dunno why it took me so long to put my finger on it, but now that i have, well damb, it just annoys the hell outa me. i dont need to deliberately introduce this kind of negativity into my life.
last time i checked, anhedonia was something that needed to be cured....
