Effective health coverage.

This morning I went to see our doctor for my three-month diabetic check-up and refills on my prescriptions. Then I had to take Sharon in to the same office for an acute problem, then to our pharmacist to pick up a couple of new prescriptions for her.

Between our provincial health insurance and our employee drug plan, our total out-of-pocket cost today was zero.

When you see how some of those prescriptions have a retail value of several hundred bux, you realize that without this coverage we would simply stay sick and get worse instead of getting healed. Someone wanna explain to me how that would be better?

BTW, without said provincial coverage, there's no way I had enough money to spare to pay for my carpal tunnel surgery -- which would mean that I would've spent the last decade-plus unable to write or draw, and Space Kid! (http://www.spacekidcomics.com/) would not exist.
