something I am grateful for today

The life and work of Charlie Haden, who left us last night.... it took me a while to learn to appreciate his work in the face of flashier players, but for the last few decades I have consistently named him as the best jazz bassist of all time.

UPDATE: just learned that we also lost Tommy Ramone (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tommy_Ramone) -- the final original member -- last night! What a sad day for music!
