something I am grateful for today

3am jazzis my self-explanatory term* for the sort of jazz you wanna listen to at 3am... and probably the kind that most jazz musicians wanna play at 3am. It's slow and quiet, and pensive, and haunting, and has a kind of sweet ache and a sort of nobility to it.
Idle Momentsby Grant Green is a textbook example of 3am jazz. Or Lee Ritenour's version of
Stolen Momentsis another one that leaps to my mind. Or see if you can find
On the Red Side of the Streetby Enrico Rava. If you listen to 1950s Miles Davis you'll probably hear some. Anyhoo...
The time I love driving a car the most, is when the weather is nice and the traffic is light-to-non-existent so you can really relax and get into a kind of in-the-moment zen thing. Then add in some unusually nice scenery that you can notice cuz the road doesn't demand so much focus (excellent driving conditions, remember). When you've got all that, and then some 3am jazz comes on the radio or music player of some sort... life doesn't get any better.
[* I think it's my term: maybe someone else invented it before me, I dunno]
