I just commented on someone else's post elsewhere, and in my comment I described myself as “a (former) curmudgeon”. It wasn't until the characters had left my fingertips and entered the monitor that I stopped to realize:

for most of the decades of my life, I had an image of myself as bitter, depressed, pessimistic, and a curmudgeon. But today, I no longer really see myself as any of those things.

Oh sure, I have the odd moment still. And someone like Sharon might give me a look and go “What do you mean?! You still do this and this and...” or somesuch. But even if my current self-evaluation is not rigidly accurate: I think the fact that I have this new self-evaluation at all, means something.

Maybe something as simple as “we don't have to always completely be what we were”.

Does this mean we have to stop calling you Curmudge?

(With apologies to The Rolling Stones)

You can't always be who you were
You can't always be who you were
But if you try sometimes
You might just find
You can be who you are

But nicknames are forever.

It's true you have evolved into the Pokemon form Calmrudgeon.

You really never seemed very bitter, etc., online. Certainly not in your art.

we don't have to always completely be what we were

Think of yourself as science: gradually progressing toward a more optimized version.

I don't know your past, but as for me i'm thinking you're a rather nice person with a good sense of humour, great art skills and... and .... Do you want me to continue??? ;)

By the way, is there any hidden meaning in your blog's title "curmudge's SUTFF"?? :)

“Curmudge” is a nickname I earned from a group of online friends in the early '90s, and when I started this blog, most of my readers were members of that group.

Sutff came about because I often typo the word “stuff” that way -- so often, that I eventually decided to officially adopt “sutff” as the word I use instead. So now I am no longer making typos! (I even say sutff at home now!)
