being greeted by clean dry roads this morning -- after yesterday's forecast had warned of possible freezing rain overnight topped with an inch or two of snow... I much prefer being able to drive in conditions like this, thank you

A beautiful sunset.

Remembering my brother Wip -- he would've been 65 today.

Not much to report for this last leg of the journey, just involving getting from Gatwick back to Canada. Here's me girding my mental loins before checking out of the hotel in the morning:

My final morning in York was gray and with a bitter wind chill -- so cold that it made the news, whereas I just thought it was no worse than home. Still, it was a marked change from the rest of my stay here, almost as if the city felt that it no longer needed to put on its welcoming face. Before dawn I paid a last visit to "my" Caffe Nero:

Part of today's adventure was seeing the Viking museum Jorvik. I have always dug Viking stuff so I looked forward to this, although I was the only one who did, and the only one who went.dim blurry pics )

I took an extra-long wander for my last full day in York and once again the sun co-operated in the early morning. I headed down Castlegate where I found an impressive residence behind St. Mary's:

Once again I was greeted by a sunny (albeit brisk) morning:

My morning began with gazing out my balcony for many minutes, lost in thought. I took a series of pictures to capture the view:

Short and sweet today - didn't visit any new streets, and spent a good chunk of the day pushing a wheelchair which didn't give me much opportunity to free up my hands and take a plethora of pics. But there are some! Never fear!

First thing this morning I popped out to M&S to get milk for breakfast -- and noticed that M&S has a nifty clock:

Today's walkabout was a bit long, to make up for yesterday. I set off early in the morning and went down Piccadilly, the only remaining street radiating from our flat that I hadn't yet gone down. It took me to another section of the city walls where I found Fishergate Postern Tower:

I decided not to go on walkabout today, so I will have no new historic sites with which to regale you. A week of unwonted walking finally caught up with me, so I was beat and just wanted to take it easy today. But I awoke to a bright sunny morning, serenaded by far-off church bells... so when I went out for coffee I captured the clear sky and the cheery sun on the buildings around my block:

Today I was greeted by a bright sunny morning, wherein I went out for coffee and briefly got lost, during which loss I stumbled upon St. Mary's:

Today's jaunt was short but sweet, taking in stretches I have seen many times along with ones brand new to me! After a damp morning, a sunny break coaxed me out:

Today was mostly another walkabout day for me. This morning we went to the grocery store, on the way to which we passed the 15th century pub The Black Swan:

I thought this was gonna be a quiet day, cuz it was rainy and no one felt like going out. But then after breakfast, we ended up going across the street to shop at Primark and I got some new T-shirts. Then we came back home for lunch and I felt like I didn't wanna waste the couple of remaining hours of daylight... so I put my hood up and went on a wander to places I hadn't been before.

I travelled west along the River Foss:

For my first morning in York, I was greeted by a clear sunny day with ducks sailing past below my balcony:
